Working days calculator
Legal deadlines, sick leave and project plans are counted in working days rather than calendar days. Here you decide which days count as work.
If your week includes Saturdays, set the corresponding selector.
How it works
The calendar is walked day by day between the two dates, both included, discarding those that fall on a weekend according to your settings. The holidays you enter are then subtracted.
Formula
Working days = period days − weekend days − holidays
Hours = working days × 8
Working weeks = working days ÷ 5
Worked example
From 2026-06-01 to 2026-06-30
Calendar days: 30
Weekend days: 8
Holidays: 1
Working days: 21 (168 hours)
Explanation
Calendar days, working days and clear days
They are not synonyms, though they are used as such. Calendar days are all of them. Working days exclude Sundays and public holidays, and depending on the country also Saturdays. Clear or business days are an administrative concept that varies by rule: in some procedures Saturday counts and in others it does not. Before counting, check the exact wording of the legal text.
Why you have to enter the holidays
There is no universal calendar. Every country has its own, most regions add some and many cities have local festivals. On top of that there are movable holidays tied to Easter, which shifts every year. Any tool promising to know them all automatically will get your particular case wrong.
Delivery and service deadlines
Carriers and support services count in working days. A three-working-day shipment sent on a Thursday arrives the following Tuesday, not Sunday. Over long weekends and local holidays the gap stretches further.
Counting annual leave
Some agreements count holiday in calendar days and others in working days, and the difference is substantial: thirty calendar days is about twenty-two working days.
Frequently asked questions
Are both dates included?
Yes, the start and the end date both count as part of the period.
Why do I have to enter holidays manually?
Because they vary by country, region and even city. Entering the number keeps you in control of which calendar applies.
Is thirty days of leave thirty days off work?
It depends on the agreement. Counted in calendar days it includes weekends; counted in working days it amounts to about six weeks.
Is Saturday a business day?
It depends on the applicable rule. In many administrative procedures it is not, but in other contexts it counts as a working day.
