Colombia service bonus calculator
The service bonus is one month of salary a year, paid in two halves: one in June and one in December.
Its base includes the transport allowance, even though the allowance counts for nothing else. That is the commonest mistake.
How it works
Take the base -salary plus the transport allowance if you get it- and multiply by the days worked in the half-year, divided by 360.
A full half-year is 180 days and gives half a salary.
Formula
Base = salary + transport allowance
Bonus = base × days worked ÷ 360
Worked example
A salary of $3,000,000 with allowance, full half-year in 2026:
Base: $3,000,000 + $249,095 = $3,249,095
Bonus: 3,249,095 × 180 ÷ 360 = $1,624,548
With 137 days worked: $1,236,353
Explanation
The deadlines are 30 June and 20 December. The June one covers January to June; the December one, July to December.
The transport allowance counts towards the bonus even though it carries no health or pension contributions. Forgetting it is expensive: on a minimum wage it is nearly $125,000 less per bonus, a quarter of a million a year.
Every employee with an employment contract is entitled, including domestic workers since 2016. Service contractors are not employees and are not entitled.
