Czechia DPH calculator
In Czechia the indirect tax on consumption is DPH (daň z přidané hodnoty, value added tax), with a standard rate of 21%.
In 2024 Czechia merged its two reduced rates of 15% and 10% into a single 12% rate, simplifying the system. Books moved to zero rating in the same reform. The country keeps its own currency despite EU membership.
This calculator works both ways: it adds the tax to a price without it and also breaks it out of a final price.
How it works
Enter the amount, choose whether to add or remove the tax and pick the rate. The rates available in Czechia are: standard 21 % and reduced 12 %.
If you need a rate other than those listed, choose “other rate” and type it in.
Formula
Add: total = net × (1 + rate ÷ 100)
Remove: net = total ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100)
Tax = total − net
Worked example
A product priced Kč1,000 before tax, at the standard 21 % rate:
DPH amount: Kč210
Final price: Kč1,210
The other way round, starting from Kč1,210 tax included, the base is Kč1,000 again.
Explanation
The two reduced rates merged into one
Until 2023 Czechia had two reduced rates, 15% and 10%. From 1 January 2024 they merged into a single 12%. That is why Czech invoices from before and after that date do not reconcile if you apply the same percentage throughout.
Books moved to zero rate
The same reform put printed and electronic books at zero. The publisher still deducts input tax, so the effect on the final price is real rather than nominal.
What 12% covers
Food, water, medicines, passenger transport, accommodation, cultural and sporting admissions, and restaurant service excluding alcoholic drinks.
Monthly invoice control report
Besides the return, taxable persons file the kontrolní hlášení, a detailed report of invoices issued and received that the administration cross-matches to detect fraud chains. Deadlines are strict and late-filing penalties automatic.
Frequently asked questions
Which DPH rates apply in Czechia?
The rates built into the calculator are: standard 21 % and reduced 12 %. Which one applies to a given product or service is set by Czechia legislation; if in doubt, check with la Finanční správa.
How do I remove DPH from a final price?
Choose the option to remove the tax and the calculator divides the final price by one plus the rate. Subtracting the percentage from the final price gives the wrong answer.
Why was there a 15% rate in 2023?
Because until 31 December that year two reduced rates coexisted, 15% and 10%, later merged into the current 12%.
What is the kontrolní hlášení?
A periodic control report detailing invoices issued and received, filed in addition to the ordinary VAT return.
