Peru CTS severance fund calculator
The CTS is an unemployment fund paid in twice a year, and while you are still employed it can only be withdrawn within limits.
The usual mistake is the base: it is not the bare salary, it carries a sixth of the statutory bonus.
How it works
Computable pay adds three things: salary, family allowance and one sixth of the last statutory bonus.
The period is then applied to that base: one twelfth per full month and one three-hundred-and-sixtieth per odd day.
Formula
Computable = salary + family allowance + bonus ÷ 6
CTS = computable × (months ÷ 12) + computable × (days ÷ 360)
Worked example
A salary of S/ 3,000, full half-year, bonus of S/ 3,000:
Computable: 3,000 + 500 = S/ 3,500
For six months: 3,500 × 6 ÷ 12 = S/ 1,750
CTS for the period: S/ 1,750
Explanation
It is deposited twice a year, in the first half of May and of November. The May deposit covers November to April; the November one, May to October.
The sixth of the bonus is the part most often forgotten and the one that moves the most money: in the example above it is 250 soles per deposit, five hundred a year.
The CTS goes into a bank account in the worker's own name and earns interest. Outside the free-withdrawal windows that several temporary laws have opened, only the amount above four salaries can be taken out.
Workers averaging under four hours a day have no CTS entitlement.
Frequently asked questions
Why add a sixth of the bonus?
Because the law treats the statutory bonus as part of annual pay and spreads it into the CTS base at one sixth, its weight over the half-year.
When is it deposited?
In the first half of May and the first half of November, at the bank the worker chooses.
Can I withdraw all of it?
Only the amount above four gross salaries, unless a temporary law opens free withdrawal, which has happened several times.
