Türkiye KDV calculator
In Türkiye the indirect tax on consumption is KDV (katma değer vergisi, value added tax), with a standard rate of 20%.
Türkiye raised its standard rate from 18% to 20% in 2023. The 10% rate covers food, textiles, restaurants and accommodation, while 1% is reserved for basic agricultural products, bread and the press. Tourists can claim a KDV refund on purchases above a certain amount.
This calculator works both ways: it adds the tax to a price without it and also breaks it out of a final price.
How it works
Enter the amount, choose whether to add or remove the tax and pick the rate. The rates available in Türkiye are: standard 20 %, reduced 10 % and super-reduced 1 %.
If you need a rate other than those listed, choose “other rate” and type it in.
Formula
Add: total = net × (1 + rate ÷ 100)
Remove: net = total ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100)
Tax = total − net
Worked example
A product priced ₺1,000 before tax, at the standard 20 % rate:
KDV amount: ₺200
Final price: ₺1,200
The other way round, starting from ₺1,200 tax included, the base is ₺1,000 again.
Explanation
KDV: up from 18% to 20% in 2023
Turkey's standard rate went from 18% to 20% in July 2023, and the reduced rate from 8% to 10%, as part of a fiscal consolidation package. It is a very recent change, so any invoice from the first half of that year carries the old rates.
A 1% rate almost nobody has
Turkey keeps a 1% rate for basic food products, newspapers and magazines, and certain financial leasing transactions. It is one of the lowest super-reduced rates in existence.
Tourist refund
Purchases above a minimum amount at participating retailers qualify for a KDV refund on leaving the country, with the corresponding customs stamp. It is widespread practice in the grand bazaar and in the carpet and textile trade.
e-Fatura and e-Arşiv
The Turkish administration has rolled out electronic invoicing in stages. Businesses above certain thresholds issue e-Fatura between themselves, and e-Arşiv to final consumers.
Frequently asked questions
Which KDV rates apply in Türkiye?
The rates built into the calculator are: standard 20 %, reduced 10 % and super-reduced 1 %. Which one applies to a given product or service is set by Türkiye legislation; if in doubt, check with la Gelir İdaresi Başkanlığı.
How do I remove KDV from a final price?
Choose the option to remove the tax and the calculator divides the final price by one plus the rate. Subtracting the percentage from the final price gives the wrong answer.
Since when has KDV been 20%?
Since July 2023. Before that Turkey’s standard rate was 18% and the reduced rate 8%.
What does KDV mean?
